Show Your Best Smile and Land that Long Island Job

When you’re at work, are you friendly and upbeat, or are you so busy trying to get the job done that you forget to smile at your coworkers from time to time? Various research shows that a genuine—and attractive—smile in the workplace can take you far and, today, Syosset cosmetic dentist Dr. Richard Kobak wants to discuss why smiling in the workplace is so important and how to reap the benefits by achieving the smile of your dreams.

Why Should I Smile at Work?

Smiling, more than any other body language signal or physical feature, is a sign of friendliness, sincerity, and self-confidence, and your smile in the workplace relays these values to your coworkers, clients, and boss. This doesn’t mean, however, that you should go about your day with an apparently fake grin plastered across your face. In fact, studies show that faking a smile at work is actually harmful to your health. (more…)

Restoring and Renewing Your Smile with Dental Implants by Your Syosset Cosmetic Dentist

For Syosset smile enhancement dentist Dr. Richard Kobak, helping his patients smile beautifully for life is the most rewarding part of his job. Dr. Kobak understands that some patient’s smile needs are much more extensive than others, which is why he is proud to offer advanced dental implantology services to his patients from the greater Long Island area. For patients looking to replace a missing tooth or teeth and, as a result, restore comfort, health, function, and appearance to their smiles, Dr. Kobak recommends dental implants, and, today, he’d like to address some of the most frequently asked questions about this leading tooth replacement procedure.

What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a man-made dental prosthetic that replaces a missing tooth. A dental implant consists of a small, metallic post that is implanted under the gum tissue and eventually fuses to the jawbone to act as the tooth root, an abutment post that fits on top of the implant and attaches the crown, and the crown that is attached to the abutment and looks, functions, and feels just like a natural tooth. Say Goodbye to Your “Madonna” Gap with Help from Your Syosset Dentist

Photo from 1019litefm.radio.com

Did you watch the Super Bowl last weekend? Have you been a fan of her music since the 80s? If so, you’re probably familiar with Madonna’s signature gap between her two front teeth. What you may not know, however, is that Madonna is a big fan of her gap. In fact, she turned down Glamour’s award for Woman of the Year in 1990 because the magazine “closed” her gap in her cover photo for the December issue.

Although Madonna has made her gap a part of her persona, Long Island cosmetic dentist Dr. Richard Kobak knows that most people aren’t as comfortable with gaps in their smiles. For that reason, Dr. Kobak offers two leading cosmetic dental procedures that can let you say goodbye to your gap for good. (more…)

Is Your Snoring Habit a Sign of a More Serious Dental Problem?

Are you tired of being kicked and nudged by your sleeping partner at night to stop your snoring? If so, it’s time to find out what’s behind your snoring habit with the help of a professional, and Long Island dentist Dr. Richard Kobak is the man for the job.

Snoring vs. Sleep Apnea

First things first: A severe snoring habit and sleep apnea are not one and the same.

Snoring is the sound produced by oral tissues vibrating as air passes by them and, while a snoring habit can be indicative of sleep apnea, it’s not necessarily a “medical” condition. Sleep apnea, on the other hand, is a serious medical condition in which swollen tissue, sinus problems, excessive, weight, physical malformations, and other causes obstruct the airways, making it impossible to breath normally while you sleep. Usually, sleep apnea sufferers stop breathing several times each night, sometimes for up to a minute at a time, and then wake up gasping for air. (more…)

Kristin Chenoweth: Dental Health Advocate

Actress, singer, and Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth says that she often takes pictures with people who don’t like to smile because they’re ashamed of their teeth. Additionally, the makers of Listerine Whitening found that almost half of Americans don’t think their smiles are beautiful, and 43 percent don’t smile in photos because of tooth imperfections. The superstar has teamed up with the mouthwash brand to endorse and promote a new oral health campaign.

The campaign, “Your Mouth Has Something to Say,” was designed to promote awareness for America’s Toothfairy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing dental diseases in children. Listerine created a short, animated video to explain why brushing your teeth is not enough to keep your mouth healthy.  Chenoweth explains that “we’re really trying to drive home how important it is to floss and rinse.” The videos also emphasize the power of a smile and the positive impact it has on your overall life. The makers of Listerine are contributing $100,000 to the foundation, and an additional dollar each time the video is viewed.

Fun Smile Quotes

About 96 percent of people agree that a smile is an essential part of a first impression. Smiling is an important part of life that sends messages to yourself and other people. Here are some of our favorite smile quotes to help you understand the importance of beaming and to help put a grin on your face.

“A smile is a curve that sets everything straight.” –Phyllis Diller

  • Smiling is generally defined as an upturning of the lips. When your mouth curves upward, it makes you feel happier, friendlier, more confident, and more energetic. It’s almost impossible to feel sad when you’ve got a smile on your face.
