TOOTH BONDING

MINOR IMPROVEMENT WITH TOOTH BONDING

A complete smile makeover isn’t always complicated. Many patients just want a chipped tooth repaired, sharp teeth recontoured, or oddly spaced teeth to look more uniform. In such cases, we may recommend cosmetic improvement with tooth bonding and/or recontouring.

What is Tooth Bonding & Contouring?

BondingCosmetic dental bonding involves adding to existing tooth structure. If your teeth need to be wider so that spaces between them are closed, or if you’ve lost part of your tooth to injury, bonding can add structure. We use composite resin, the same material used in tooth-colored fillings, for bonding. Your dentist may suggest that you undergo teeth whitening prior to cosmetic dental bonding because the bonding material is custom-shaded to match your existing tooth enamel. Once placed, the bonding’s color cannot be altered.

Cosmetic tooth recontouring removes tooth structure. A sharp, serrated, or jagged tooth can be smoothed out by gently removing some of the natural tissue. People with a tiny chip or pronounced canine teeth are often good candidates for tooth recontouring.
